Grandview Overview

Officially known as Grandview-Woodland, most Vancouverites refer to the Grandview neighbourhood as Commercial Drive, bordered by Venables Street to the north, Clark Drive to the west, Nanaimo Street to the east and the southern edge zig-zags starting at East 16th Avenue & Clark Drive before hitting Nanaimo. Grandview is ethnically diverse with eclectic charm and character. The Drive, as the locals call it, is a mix of old-world tradition meeting modern hipness. Of the more than 400 businesses on the Drive, the majority are single location, owner-operated. Grandview is an excellent mix of light industrial, commercial and residential housing appealing to the middle-class, young families and older residents. Today it’s one of Vancouver oldest neighbourhoods with 57 percent of homes built before 1946—a popular stop for the city’s Heritage House Tour.

The Commercial Drive area repeatedly receives the Georgia Straight Reader’s Choice Award as the ‘Best Neighbourhood in the City’. Seven elementary schools in the neighbourhood make it attractive to families, in addition to Britannia Secondary and the nearby Templeton and Gladstone Secondary Schools.
