Marpole Overview

The Marpole neighbourhood is one of the city’s oldest communities, and the one airport travelers see first when entering from the south. A vibrant and growing neighbourhood, it is bordered by Park Drive to the north, Granville Street to the west, Main Street to the east and the Fraser River to the south. You’ll find a mixture of single-family homes, low-rise condos and many varieties of rental accommodation in Marpole. English is the dominant household language, however there is a strong Chinese base with Tagalog, Russian, Japanese and Spanish spoken. With demand for new higher density housing growing in Marpole, the City of Vancouver is developing an official plan to ensure that future growth meets the needs of the community.

Marpole is a younger to middle-aged, highly educated and an ethnically diverse community. Exciting new growth can be seen near Granville and 70th with a new Safeway development. The City of Vancouver has plans for over 70 per cent of the neighbourhood to be rezoned for higher-density housing.
