South Vancouver Overview

Located south beyond 49th Avenue and east of Marpole, the South Vancouver neighbourhood of the city offers great value for families and is located with Knight Street to the east, industrial East Kent Avenue and the Fraser River to the south, Ontario Street to the west and 49th Avenue to the north. Over the past 40 years, South Vancouver or also known as Sunset, has become increasingly popular among the greater than 160,000 South Asian residents in the city as a centre for culture and commerce. Both Main Street and Fraser Street are vibrant shopping areas lined with many independently owned stores and restaurants. South Vancouver is an ethnically diverse, working-class neighbourhood with mostly single family homes and low-rise apartments. The South Vancouver/Sunset area is served by 4 elementary schools, 1 secondary school and 2 public libraries. The community is home to an outdoor pool and indoor ice area at Sunset Park with many small and mid-sized parks scattered throughout the neighbourhood. For convenience YVR airport is just minutes away.

Shopping along Marine Drive in South Vancouver is a real bonus with brand name warehouse stores and a Real Canadian Super Store. Plus the Punjabi Market on Main Street in a focal point of the community. The City of Vancouver selected the intersection of Main Street and 50th Avenue for the location of the India Gate, a first for any city in North America.
